Elbrecht, a railroad la borer at Metolius had his hand badly mashed last week while loading rails. He was brought here and given attention by Dr. Gale. It was thought necessary to amputate two fingers on his left hand. The man was sent to St Vincent's hospital at Portland. R. T. Olson, president of the Central Oregon Mercantile com pany, left the first of the week for Portland on a business trip. Mr. Olson said before leaving! that the contract for his branch j store at Metolius had been let to Rhoades and Lambrecht, and that work would commence im mediately. The contract calls for a building 50x60 feet, one story, with full basement. The Frank Forrest building at O'Neil, occupied for years as a general store by Geo. O'Neil and Joe Larson, was burned to the ground last week. The loss was confined almost entirely to the building as Mr. O'Neil had moved his Btock some five or six weeks previous to Hillman. The build ing contained the postofilce. It was one of the oldest structures in the county, having been built about 1885.
