MADRAS, OREGON
Oregon will show 'from 150,-
000 to 200.000 neonle a bij? bx
hibit of her products at the land
show in St. Paul. December 12
to 28.
Governor West has received
word from the officers of the
Northwestern Development Lea
gue that the business interests
of St. Paul, Minneapolis and Du
luth have agreed to a deal where
by this state will be furnished
exhibit space without cost at the
land show. The. show to be
given under the auspices of the
league is the only one in the
country which is not a private
enterprise and will be managed
in such a way as to furnish space
for official exhibits.
At a cost of ten thousand dol
lars the business interests of the
three Minnesota cities have
bought from the league 2,500
square feet of preferred space at
the show. Each of the seven
states will have a space of fifty
feet long and ten feet wide for
their official exhibit.
The governor has been asked
to confer with officers of the
league in this state and secure
the interest of those necessary
to put in an exhibit which will
be a credit to the state. Under
this plan no one community or
city will have an advantage over
others in the state. Any city.
county or land company desiring
to make an independent exhibit
will be able to secure a limited
amount of space near the state
exhibit on reasonable terms, but
it is the desire of the league of
ficers for this state that the best
possible exhibit be made in the
name of the state as it js from
such a display that results are to
be obtained.
The seven states which are to
be thus represented are Oregon,
Washington Idaho, Montana,
North and South Dakota and
Minnesota. No other states will
have exhibits and Canadian ex
hibits will be barred, the whole
idea of the show being J.'an ex
position by the seven states for
the benefit of the seven states
alone."
Oregon officers of the League
are C. C. Chapman of Portland
and William Hanley of Burns.
Inquiries about the Oregon ex
hibit should be addressed to them
while information about the floor
space therein should be address
ed to Will A. Campbell, St. Paul,
Minn.

The semi-centennial Oregon
State Fair will open to the public
next Monday, and from press
reports received, the racing, ex
hibits and athletic events will
surpass anything ever before at
tempted in the capitol city.
Probably the most interesting
feature that could be crowded to
the front on the opening day
was the decision to make "Pio
neers' Day" blaze the way of
the fair. The entertainment of
the pioneers on that day will be
in the hands of Albert Tozier,
who has been a camper at the
state fair grounds for the past
45 years, and who is now mayor,
board of health and official record
keeper for the old timers.
Woodmen of the World Day,
Tuesday, is sure to be a record
breaker. Already there are 247
women drilling to make a dem
onstration on the race track as
the bier feature to opening the
second day's race program.
Stores and factories will close
at noon on Salem Day," Wed
nesday, to allow all who wish to
attend the opportunity to do so.
For this day there will be numer-
m . . mm .1
ous tree attractions to oe giyen
during the race meet. From 9
o'clock in the morning, when the
judging of the livestock begins,
until the last of the motion pic
tures in the evening, there will
not be a dull moment. The Ore
gon Agricultural band will give
three concerts on that day. The
Salem Women's quartet will also
be heard.
The race of homing pigeons
rom Salem to Portland will be
on "Salem Day," as will also a
bee exhibition by Herman Ahlers
who can and does do wonderful
things with the little fellows.
These features and the conven
tion of the Oregon Pure Bred
Live Stock association in the
Administration Building will
make Salem Day one replete
with entertainment and instruc-
ion.
Portland Day, Thursday, is ex
pected to be the biggest day in
the history of the fair in point of
attendance. One of the big
features of the day will be the
Lewis & Clark 2:12 trot with a
$5000 purse.
None is working harder for
success than the allied German
Speaking Societies of Oregon.
They intend to make Friday, the
day set aside for their benefit,
one of the best they have ever
liad. They will leave Portland
with a special excursion train.
At the demonstration for the
Good Roads project Saturday,
Phil Bates will lecture on th6
question. Sam Hill, the apostle
of Good Roads from the state of
Washington, is also expected to
deliver an address.
Aside from the special features
offered on the particular days
are the live stock exhibits, the
poultry competitions, the horse
show and many other features
which are proper only with a
state fair show. There are ex
actly 1010 entries in the various
lve stock events and from the
outlook the poultry show will be
large.
The state fair in Salem for so
many years has learned the peo
ple how to care for visitors, and
the hundreds who go there this
year will not be without the best
accommodations. A great tent
city for campers will arise on a
Selected spot at the fair grounds
and many who attend will do
heir eating and cookincr in tho
open and sleep in a tent at night.
All the railroad lines have
granted reduced rates 'on ac.
count of the Oregon State. Fair
and special rates are givep to
those who exhibit their stock at
the fair.
