Strangers, Kindly Ask Our Old Patrons How We Have Treated Them The report printed in The Pio neer and several other county papers last week to the effect that an appropriation ol i)ibuu had been sot aside for two ex perimental stations was an er ror. The following taken from the court records, is what actual ly hannened: "Commissioner Rice maintains that Crook county has no author ity to appropriate money for such purposes. "Commissioner Rayloy favors an appropriation of $750 during 1911, and .$750 during 1912, for the establishment and mainten ance of a dry farming station, but desires to take under advise ment the question of the estab lishment of a station devoted to irrigation problems. "Judge Ellis takes the stand that in view of the apparent uni versal demand and need of both stations for the proper and in telligent direction of settlers, present and prospective, the county is warranted in indicat ing its willingness to contribute the sum asked for in establishing both stations, including numer ous sub-stations, provided $7000 is contributed toward the same purpose from other sources." FARMERS MAY WIN VALUABLE PRIZES Lond Show to ho Hold This Wlntor Offers Cups Vnluod at $1000 for Farm Products The following news item from Portland, Ore., is sent out this week by promoters of the big big land shows to be held in the east and middle west this win ter: "Farmers and stock raisers of the pacific Northwest have an opportunity to win a number of valuable prizes at the big land shows to be held in the east and middle west next winter. These include wheat, oats, potatoes, corn, bar ley, apples, sugar beets, hops, alfalfa, etc. "The New York exposition will be the biggest land show ever held in America and the most val uable prizes ever offered for ag ricultural products will be award ed. Agriculture as it is general ly practiced, dry farming and irrigation methods will be dem onstrated. Moving pictures, lec tures, literature and actual farm ers will demonstrate the advan tages of owning and developing land. "The show will voice the cry of 'back to the soil.' It will show tillers of worn-out land how to rejuvenate their soils or where to seek richer farms; it will point the city man to green fields and will direct the immigrant. It is of special advantage for Oregon and Washington to be well rep resented at this big show and commercial bodies and the rail roads are urging the fullest co operation by Northwest produc ers. P.
