Judge Ellis takes the stand that in view of the apparent uni versal demand and need of both stations for the proper and intel ligent direction of settlers, pres ent and prospective, the county is warranted in indicating its willingness to contribute the sum asked for in establishing both stations, including numerous sub stations, provided $7000 is con tributed toward the same pur pose from other sources. Mr. Hanley says that plans are being made for one of the largest development meetings in the state, and that Burns, Harney county, plans to break all hogpi tality records at the convention of the Central Oregon Develop ment league, October 2 and 3. All the guests attending the convention via Prairie Citv and Vale, will be met at those rail way terminals by automobiles and taken across country to Burns without charge. There is no limit to the number who are to be accommodated in this manner and the ingenuity of the RnrnH business element is pledged to the duty of handling all who come. Auto excursions have been planned by the Development league management from all parts of the state to Burns for the October convention. One big party will go up the Des chutes Canyon, stopping over at different towns in the Deschutes Valley and proceeding thence to Burns on the most direct line. Another party will go over the old Santiam Pass road, across the Cascades from Portland, cov ering the entire distance by auto. Still another auto party is pledged to go from Eugene up the Mac kenzie, across the Cascades, and thence direct to Burns. Medford has agreed to send an automobile crowd out over the new Crater Lake road, via Crescent, Silver Lake and across country to Burns. Secretary J. E. Sawhill of the Central Oregon league, and Sec retary Chapman of the Oregon Development league, were in conference several days last week over these details. Mr. Hanley, before leaving As toria, made several appointments to complete organization of that body. The executive committee as it now stands is comnosed of J. W.
