How to Win Any young lady who desires to enter this contest and win one of the magnificent prizes offered should see that her name is sent to the contest department. All that is necessary to win a prize is to receive the largest ' number of votes, according to the condi tions mentioned elsewhere in this announcement. Candidates should at once in terest their friends in the con test, and by united and energetic action induce as many people as possible to vote for them. Each nomination coupon cut from the Madras Pioneer will count 1000 votes for a candidate. The nomi nation coupon can be used only once. The nomination coupon will only appear for a few issues, and only a limited number of nomi nations will be accepted. Cut the nomination blank from this issue and send it to the Pioneer with your name or the name and addiLSS of your favorite candi date.. A subscription is not nec essary, but a good start means much. The name of the person making the nomination will not be divulged if so requested. Orders for the prizes will be given the successful contestants at the close of the contest; same may be used by the contestant herself or disposed of in any manner she may see fit. Any young lady residing in the territory mentioned is eligi ble to compete in this contest. A 1 I J Anyone wno aesires to vote in this contest may do so by cou pons and nomination blanks clipped from the Madras Pioneer and by special vote ballots ob tained by subscribing to the Madras Pioneer. The ballots secured by subscription to the Pioneer may be held as long as desired and voted at any time up to the close of the contest, but coupons cut from the Pioneer are only good for ten days from publication and will not be counted if voted after the date printed on the ballot. Persons living in one district are not confined to voting for ladies in their own particular district, but may vote for any body in the race. This offer affords the young women of Madras and outside districts ah excellent opportuni ty to receive a trip that cannot be surpassed, at the expense of the Madras Pioneer. Enter the name of the lady whom you wish to secure one of these magnificent rewards in this contest at once. Better still, get the lady to enter her name, and then vote for her. Those who get in on the start have the best chance of winning, so it is desirable that the name be entered at once in order to get a good start. Candidates who enter this contest do not necessarily have to be sub scribers of the Pioneer. Enter your name and your friends will do the rest. You will be sur prised to see how rapidly the votes will come in and what lit tle effort is necessary to win one of the rewards offered. Get in on the start and encourage your friends to vote for you; the. rest will be easy. You will never know how popular you are until you enter a contest of this kind. After the first announcement of candidates the votes will be counted at the Pioneer office each week and the result printed in the next issue. There will be a short write-up in the paper each week from now on until the close of the contest, and those entered can keep in close touch with the contest and competing candidates. Certain it is that three ladies of Madras and the other district are going to get one each of these magnificent rewards, and it is left to the readers of the Pioneer to decide. Nominations Any person has the privilege of nominating one or more can didates. Nominations should be mailed to the contest department at once, as the named of the can didates will be published in a few days. Candidates can be nominated after this date but it is a great advantage for each candidate to have her name in the first list published, so that her friends may not agree to work for someone else before knowing who are entering the contest. It costs absolutely nothing to nominate a candidate. How Ballots Are Secured In all cases where ballots are issued subscriptions must be paid or prepaid. The full amount of moey must be sent direct by mail, paid to local agents or brought to our office. Territory Divided As Follows District No. will include all ter ritory in the city limits of Mad ras. Distaict No. 2 will include all territory outside of the city limits oi Madras. HORSETHIEVES MAKE A CLEAN SWEEP Horses Found Later Grazing on tho Opon Range Sheriff Is Sore Horse thieves have been raid ing the Camp creek country and as a consequence there is great excitement up there, says the Prineville Journal. Alex Am nion, the Mays ranch, Randolph Gibson, Harry Barnes and others are all loosers. The marauders made a good clean job of it. They took every horse on the place workhorses, saddle horses etc. In one or two instances ranchmen kept a saddlehorse in the barn so that it would be handy early in the morning to round un stock. These were overlooked. The horses were missed Mon day morning and after a long search their trail was struck, bu in the afternoon of Monday i violent thunder storm came up and obliterated all traces. Tuesday morning Sheriff Bal four was hurried to the scene in Mr. Shattuck's car. He arrived at Randolph Gibson's place at a. m. and had to wait until 3:30 n. m. before he could get a sad dlehorse. The raiders made good clean job of it. The people were lucky to have the barns left. Posses were organized and the search commenced. Everybody was working in the dark. Mau ry mountain was surrounded and closely watched but nothing happened. Some thought the stock was driven over onto the high desert and headed for the California line, so the telegraph and telephone lines were kep busy until every sheriff within a radius of 500 miles was notified to be on the lookout. Of course, as is usual in such cases, there are persons who are suspected of knowing more than they should of the raid but there is nothing more tangible than suspicion. The rustlers must have been well organized for they planned a complete sur prise that left no tell-tale cir cumstances not anticipated. He returned this afternoon from a bootless quest in the Camp creek country, where he went in search of bunch of about sixty head of horses and the parties who were suspected of running them out of the country. The parties were found, all right, but they did not haye the stock, which were later found about forty miles distant browsing peacefully on the open range. The sheritt during the trip was compelled to ride horse back about fifty miles and he has not sat astride a horse for fiye years. He is at home now, rest ing up. Prineville Review. Five Calves in 26 Months Kyle Loucks is the owner of a Brown Swiss cow, four years old, which during the past 26 months has given birth to five calves. Two of these calves have grown to cowhood and are proving to be excellent milkers while this prolific smasher of the beef trust is herself a splendid cow. with the exception of her habit of having twin calves. On ii ert I n a i tne zutn or yprn two years ago the Brown Swiss became the mother of two heifer calves, last August a male calf was born, and on the 14th of the present month another pair of heifer calves. Can anyone trot out a cow that will beat this record five calves in 26 months? HAVrNG-lnlfly PottltMl in OreRon lot Id ike to ler from owners of i . h dry r if rioted : KriuliiK or h r iLln.
