We find by examining1 the tax rolls for 1909 and 19f0 that some of our friends were assessed on the same property three times as much for 1910 as for 1909, and in one instance more than four times as much, and this where the previous assessment appear ed to be fair and equitable. As the total increase for 1910 was less than one and one-half millions, it is very apparent that values were not generally in creased. We also found that to bo the case by examining the as assessments of the various school districts. Prineville's as sessment for 1910 was consider ably less than the year previous, also several other districts lying east and south were assessed for amounts ranging from $15,000 to $70,000 less than in 1909. Our county officials with the exception of the assessor, made no effort (o justify such a condi tion of affairs, because no sane man believes that property in any part of Crook county is de preciating. However when we asked for an order recommend ing that the sheriff allow a rebate on all assessments which have been raised more than 50 per cent, our county judge seemed unwilling to assist in obtaining relief, either from a 100 percent, "rl"' v Tlc. ; ; S Communicated S - mi 1' month is....... 1 court takes po action for relief, To the taxpayers of Madras, Lamonta aud Culver: We your committee appointed to obtain a rebate on your as sessments, report as follows: We find the total assessment for Crook county for the year 1909 was $7,910,421; for 1910, $9,199,008, or an increase of $1,289,587 for the year 1910. we recommend that all whose Tickets wlllTif P?rcUM? taxes were raised more than 100 per cent fill out an affiduvit of wrongful assessment, asking the sheriff to rebate all above 100 per cent increase.
