Luelling wlio has a ranch on the north end of Agency Plain was in the city yesterday and states that the wagon grade which has been under construc tion by the Oregon Trunk rail way from Mecca to the Plain is about completed. With a length of about three miles the heaviest grade is said to be not to exceed per cent while the greater por tion is about 3 or 4 per cent. The road is twelve feet wide, with extra wide places for teams i pass on every point where I there is a turn. Much of thei road has been blasted out of solid i rock and the expense of building t has been largo. The road will be opened for public use during' the coming week and will here- fter be the route traveled from ' Madras to Warmspring Agency. It will also give the north end farmers access to the station at Mecca and provide a shorter haul for water to their ranches. The i oad reaches the level of the1 plain on Mr. Luclling's ranch. Jewish Tabernacle Service Evangelists Gregg and Webb will give their unique service, the Jewish Tabernacle" on Monday night, May 22. In this service a representation of the old Jewish tabernacle will be erected, with the furniture com plete. Boys will act as priests and kings's guards. Little girls will act as cherubim over the mcry seat. The sacrifice will be burned and "golden" candle sticks lighted in presence of the people. The stereopticon will also be used to illustrate the service. This is the closing ser vice of the meeting. Attending Grand Lodge Howard W. Turner and C. E. Iloush are. in Portland as dele gates to the Odd Fellows Grand lodge from Mt. Jefferson Lodge No. 19G. Correspondent at Gateway Mr. Albert Lewis, who has charge of the store at Gateway, is acting as the Pioneer's cor respondent from that place, and his contributions make a welcome addition to our columns. People at Gateway and in that vicinity will confer a favor by telling Mr. Lewis any items of interest they may learn. Mr. and Mrs. Andrews were visitors at Madras last Saturday. Mrs. McFarland has been seri ously ill for the past week but is now improving. B. Webber has his new build ing completed and will . move into the same this week. Mr. and Mrs. A. Palmer and A. Nelson made a trip to Mad ras the first of the week. Work on the new depot is pro gressing rapidly and this town will soon have one of the best depots on the line. C. A. Kaepplar who conducts a general store at this place, left last week for an extended trip through the northwest. P. N. Vibbert has installed a pumping plant in the well on his place. He will use a portion of the water for irrigation. Al. Freeberg is building a large residence on his farm about two miles from here. Will rich Bros, of this place are doing the work. J. Dempsey is busy complet ing his two story building on Blair street. A drug store will locate on first floor as soon as completed. The Central Oregon well drill ing company has reached a depth of 100 feet in the well they are drilling for the 0. W. 11. & N. railroad company. George Northrup of the Gate way townsite company, spent several days in Portland the first of the week. He returned with a number of parties who will locate here, . John E. Daley comnienced the construction of his largo new hotel last week, at the corner of Blair and Main streets. C. H.
