- The March term of county court con
ened March 1. Tresent-Judge H. C.
Ellis, Commissioners R. H. Bayley and
James Rice, Warren Brown, clerk and
T. N. Balfour, sheriff. The following
is among the business transacted of in
terest to northern Crook County:
N ow on this day is presented to this
court the petetion of J. L. Windom et
al for a county road, and upon due con
sideration it is ordered that the county
clerk forward the papers relative to
said road to F. W. Wilson, district at
torney, for his opinion as to their
validity.
Regarding the Glenn H Loucks peti
tion for county road; it appearing from
the opinion of the district attorney that
the affidavit of posting is defective, it
is thereforo ordered that the matter be
continued until the next meeting of this
court and that the clerk notify W.
Glenn Loucks of the objections raised
by the district attorney
James T, Robinson et al petition for a
conty road, continued until the next
meeting of this court for failue to file
bond or affidavit of posting notices as
prescribed by law.
Upon written request of District At
torney Wilson, the matter of a logging
franchise on the Deschutes river is con
tinned until he .May term of this
court.

In answer to C. C. Covey's paid ad
vrtisement in the Madras Pioneer of
March 9, 1911, vhich is headed as fol
lows: TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
In that advertisement he states that
the literature advertising Vanora con
tains the following statement. "To
the west of Vanora lies the Warm
Springs Reservation which according"
to the statement made by the Indian
Agent ioon be thrown .oj en for settle
ment: this would cause a irreat rush to
Vanora."- Mr. Covey at this point
states that he, Mr. Covey, never made
such statement. We agree with him
that he never made the statement. But
in our quoting these words we did
not say nor infer that Mr. Covey Eaid
this, but will say that the Indian Agent
from Washington, D. C, did make this
statement and we can get several af
fidavits to prove our assertion. What
onirl m nnr advertisement was his
words and that the same was made in !
the hearing of Mr. Covey at the time
that the Indian Agent was here about
two and one-half years ago; the exact
date I do not remember.
He further states that Vanora is not
the Railroad point for the reservation
Npw in all our advertisements we have
been conservative and we do not ciaim
all of the reservation as being directly
tributary to Vanora, but we do chum
that we are directlv east of the south
ern part of the reservation and that we
will naturally draw a large trade irom
that point.
Mr. Covey makes this statement. "I
am not interested in Vaii' ra or any
other townsite and I do not propose to
have my nanr e connected, even by in
fluence, with an enterprise the adver
tisements of which contains as mniy
mistatements of facts as appear in the
literature advertising Vanora."
We again take pleasure in saying that
ve did not hand Mr. Covey any money
to help us advertise our townsite. We
notjee that Mr. Covey has been t-ying
to help n station to the north of us and
why should he do this if he does not re
eoivo something for his influence or if
he had no interest there, why should he
pay for tlje advertisement tnat wc are
now answering?
