Heavy Demands For Freight Service URGE EXPORT PRODUCTS (Portland Telegram) So heavy has been the demands made upon the Oregon Trunk for freight ser vice on the part of farmers, livestock men, Bheepmen and others in various parts of Central Oregon now reached by the new Hill line that heroic efforts are being made by the company to pro vide sufficient number of cars to move the shipments now ready for the mar kets. In spite of the fact that the reg ular operation of the road is not to bo inaugurated until March 1, shipments are being taken as rapidly as the Ore gon Trunk can secure the equipment. This emergency service has been de cided upon by the traffic department as an accommodation to the interior points and Is based npon President John P. Stevens' public statement in his address last week at Madras when he announced "You can depend on us to give you fair square and honest treatment and all we ask of you is co-operation." Inside of 24 hours, the different points along the line where the people have been nnxlously waiting for the coming of the railroad, literally began throw ng business at Mr. Stevens' head, and he has issued instructions to both the traffic and operating departments to do everything in their power to give the shippers preliminary service until schedules and tariffs have been worked ' out. It is Btated that vastly more ton nage had been offered to the Oregon Trunk than any of the railroad officials dreamed would be forthcoming. Cattle, horses and sheep are being shipped to markets. Lumber, mill-stuffs and grain and other kind of products are being assembled at the different traffic points in almost feverish excitement. Yesterday's arrival of four carloads of sheep from Madras was the first shipment of that kind to be received here from the interior and the big yard at Madras contains thousands of head of sheep that will be moved down here within the next week or so.
