City Counci Proceedings The regular monthly meeting of the Madras city council was held. Tuesday evening, Mayor Turner, Councilmen Gray, Tuck er, W. R. Cook, VV. H. Cook, T. A. Long and treasurer Barnett being present. Councilman Smith was absent. Work; of the council of special interest to the public follows: Ordered by the council that all bids for the graveling of Fifth Street be" rejected. The street light to be placed on the hill near Larkin's resi dence will be purchased by the citizens' and maintained by the city. Ordered that the city levy a five mill tax. This motion was previously lost, but upon being reconsidered, was passed by the council. The ordinance provid ing for this levy appears in an other column. An ordinance providing for the licensing and regulation of sa loons was passed. A portion of this ordinance appears in another column The license for saloons is fixed at $1000, payable semi annually.
