The contract for the grading of tie streets at Metolius has been let to George NeUon and n crew of men are already at work on the job. L. P. Foss, Mrs Mabel Curray, Mrs Pearl Otborn and W. M. Sayre, spent Tuesday in Ilend, the party making the trip in Mr. Sayre's auto. John Conroy yesterday purchased the Ford automobile owned by Fred Mc Dowell. Mr- Conroy intends to use the machine on the road to carry passengers. Louis E. Wilsnn who has been ill with diphtheria for several weeks past, is again able to be out, and was in Madras Tues day as a witness on the homestead proof of Minnie Moehring. J. W. Howard of Portland, has been in Madras the past week, in "the interest of the Brotherhood of Owls, and is meet ing with good success in the way of or ganiring a lodge here. William Martin, who formerly con ducted a restaurant in the building next to the PostofUce, returned from Seattle the early part ol "lie week and is making an addition to his building, where he will in the near future open np an up-to date restaurant.
