BRIEF ITEMS OF NEWS. Robert Rea left yest irday for a visit in Portland. S. R. Winter has gone to Ijwa on a visit to relatives. W. H Sayre came home yesterday from a visit in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Robinson started for Ashwood yesterday in their auto, L. H. Arensmeier has been engaged (0 teach in the Methodist Hill district this winter. He is not expected to return from the Kat until about November (list, Mrs. Isa E.' H. Crosby has accepted a position ns compositor in the Pioneer office. Mrs. Crosby expects to make this section of the country her home she having homesteaded a claim near Mad ras. Word was received a few days since ol the death of Karlie Phillips, the four year old boy of Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, for merly of Madras, at Edinondlon, Alberta, Canada. The cause of death was due to throat trouble, Louis Falkenhagen returned from Port hnd last Friday and has resumed his position with the Central Oregon Mer cantile Company. While the affliction on his face resulting from an unsanitary shave he got in Portland is improving, it still causes him some discomfort. Mrs. J. F. Hlanchard was injured in a runaway accident between the Hlanchard farm and town lait wefk. The single rig in which she was riding overturned and threw her violently to the ground. She will be about agnin in a lew days Prineville Journal. N. C. Janusen, of the Madras Well Drilling company, who are drilling the deep well at Culver Junction, has been in the city this week, arranging for the drill ing of a 2O0 fool well for E T. Slayton Mr. Slayton has contracted lora well 8j inches rtcrofU, and expects to have the woik started in about three weeks Prineville Journal. Max Wilson, Ed Mason and E. E Echelbergcr returned home Ust week from their vacation trip in the Cascades. They climbed the south Sister mountain, saw the Maz.in.as' record box, and also made the ascent of Hichelor. On this last peak Max Wilson found a postal left there by a Eugene min He brought it down and m tiled it to him, leaving one in its p'ace. He has since coming home, received the one he left, signed by a man from Rnsland More Combines. v A. C. Sanford, local agent and W. A. Hunt salesman for the Holt Harvester Company this week took orders for three more combined harvesters to be ship ped in time to harvest next year's crop. Frank King of Methodist Hill will have a 12- foot Baby, T. J. Leach and Bob Armstrong of Culver will to gether purchase a similar ma chine, and W. S. Williams of Agency Plain has ordered a 14 foot Baby. Other orders are in prospect, but the deals have not yet been closed. . The Holt Com pany will next season put in a full line of repairs for these ma chines at Madras. For a cer tainty there will be thirteen Combines operating in the Mad ras section next season, while there is the probability that the number will reach a score by the time next harvest is ready for cutting. Arensmeir and Miss Johanna Carolina Thee were married at Higginsville, Mis souri, September 7th. They will be at home to their friends at Methodist Hill, near Madras after Nov. 15th. The groom is a well known young school teacher, who home steaded a claim three miles south of this place, and has taught in different districts in this county during the eight years he has lived in Crook county. The marriage is the outcome of a ten years love affair, which began in the East before the groom came to Oregon to grow up with the country.
