Continued from page 1. passed by the council. It follows in full: ORDINANCE NO. . An ordinance entiiled "An Ordinance defining the kind of sidewalks and the manner of constructing the same, on Fifth Street" The City of Madras does ortlnin ns follows: Section 1. All sidewalks within the corporate limits of. the City of Madras on Fifth Street, shall bo eight feet in width. Section 2. The covering of all side walks shall be of pine lumber, two inches thick and six inches wide, and layed crosswise on five stringers with a space of one-fourth of an inch between each two boards. The boards of cover ing to be nailed down with SOd spikes, driven one-fourth of an inch below the surface of board and at least two strikes in each board at crossing of stringers. Section 3. The outer or front stringer of sidewalk shall be of timber three inches thick and ten inches wide, and placed on line of grade at outer edge of street. The four inner stringers shall be not less than three inches thick and' six incites in width and shall be securely blocked up to a Jovel with the outside stringer allowing one inch slope from inner to outer edge of sidewalk. Section 4. All crosswalks shall be four feet in width and layed of lumber three inches thick and twolve inches wide, laid on 4x6 inch cross-ties laid six feet apart, and securely nailed down with 40d spikes driven one-fourth of an inch below the surface of the board. The outer boards on all cross walks shall be laid on a bevel of not less than three inches, with aprons four feet in width reaching from crosswalk to sidewalk. Section 5. The corners of all side walks shall be round and made from timbers ten inches square. Section 6. Any person, corporation or company violating any of the pro visions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof before the Recorder's Court shall be punished by a fine of not less than Ten Dollars or more than Twenty five Dollars, or be imprisoned in the City Jail one day for each Two Dollars of such fine as may be adjudged against them. I hereby certify that the above and foregoing ordinance is a true and cor rect copy of said ordinance and of the whole thereof as passed by the com mon council of the City of Madras, on the Cth day of September, 1010. Barnett were present at the meeting. The monthly report of the treasurer showed $1774.72 on! hand Sept. 1st. The report of the recorder recited that 38 arrests had been brought before the court. Nine teen of these paid fines assessed against them, and the other nineteen had no money so were ordered to leave the city. Moneys from fines, licenses and and other sources received by the recorder during the month amounted to $352. The regular grist of bills were audited, but as many of them were in connection with the diphtheria cases and will ulti mately be paid by the county, they were all turned over to the finance committee for seggre-gation. pcaranco at the Round-up will bo awaited with more than the usua amount of interest by all Orcgonians. At the Round-up "Buffalo" Vernon will mount a steer running ns fast as six or eight cow punchers can make him go, will stop him with his hands, throw him in the same manner, and then hold him down with his teeth no one else in tnc world lias ever ' successfully attempted this feat.
