Scott, Great Editor, Dead Harvey W. Scott, for 40 years editor of the Oregonian, died last Sunday evening nt John Hopkins hospital 111 Baltimore, Maryland, 32 hours after n surgical operation for prostatectomy. With him were his wife and one of his sons, Leslie Scott, who had accom panied him on his trip for surgical re lief. In Portland Mr. Scott leaves two sons, John H. and Ambrose B., and one daughter, Miss Judith. Mr. Scott began failing nearly three months ago from an attack of sciatica. lOarly in June he went to Hot Lake, Kastern Oregon, but the baths there greatly debilitated him. At last con vinced that only surgery could relieve him, he started for John Hopkins Hos pital, from Portland, one week ago last Thursday morning. The operation was pronounced en tirely successful and the surgeons and physicians were confident of his recov ery up to Sunday morning, when an unexpected weakness of the heart en sued which the physicians were ower less to cope with. The remains will be brought from Baltimore to Portland for burial in, Kiverview Cemetery. The body is due to arrive there Friday night or Satur day. Sunday a Masonic funeral ser vice will be held in Portland, wherein the Masonic bodies of that city will lay the body at rest. There is the possi bility of the Kadosh funeral ceremonies occurring Saturday night, if the re mains reach the city in time, this be ing the most impressive Scottish Rite service that is ever held over the dead. I. Jones, a farmer livinp near Powell Buttes, has perfected an inven tion whereby power may be applied to all four wheels of an automobile instead of to the two rear wheels as at present. Those who have seen the invention state that it not only works well, greatly increasing the motive power obtainable from the engine, but that it permits the application of an improved steering gear. Mr. Jones has applied for a patent, and has received favorable advices from the Patent Office concerning his application. AND PERSONAL PROPERTY HANDLED BY 0. W.
