Combust v. Com monwealth, 125 S. W. (Kentucky) 1002, March 4, 1910. The curse of strong drink brings mourning instead of rejoicing; tears instead of laughter; rags instead of clothing; disease instead of health; in sanity instead of strong mind; crime instead of law and order; death instead of life. Robert B. Glenn, ex-Governor North Carolina. The most dangerous anarchy today is the anarchy of the saloon! It is shrewd, devilish and of infinite re source. It tramples on all law that docs not favor it, nnd the ordinary clTccts of the business are such that no man with any large measure of hu man sympathy can long engage in it. When ordinary law-breaking will not serve, the saloon does not hesitate at extraordinary outlawry. All this has been shown times with out number in the past. But worse things are to come. As the moral sense of an aroused people puts more and m6re restrictions on the saloon, its friends and servants will become more than ever desperate. They will spend money without measure. They will buy every purchasable voice and vote. They will use with more frequency and Icbs restraint the weapons of the fire bug and the assassin. But they will fail. The saloon can not live without defying the law, and the people of these United States have made up their minds that unless it keeps the law it must die. No anarchy can be tolerated on this soil. Whether it takes form in a man or in an institution, the spirit of anarchy cannot live in this free air. And that fact spells doom for the saloon. CULVER The Junction City of the Deschutes The Railroad Town of Central Oregon Has a Remarkable HistoryA Great Future Placed upon the matket but one month ago, yet the interest shown by the genera) public the sale of lots and especially the railroad development in and for Culver has made it imperative that the townsite owners, in order to protect iheir own interests must, almost immediately ad vance the. price of lots. We believe that sufficient time has already been allowed those who were anxious to secure lots at first cost, however, these prices will be held open for a short time longer and if you wish to embrace this opportunity to secure a choice selection at introductory prices we urge you to lose no time. What Is Doing at Culver? The machinery is nn the ground and work beyun on the w ell which is to supply water for townsite purposes until the development of the town will warrant the iiiHtulllrig of a grav ity system of waterworks. Practical tests of available material are being made preliminary to the establishment of a hilck maLUfuclur- tug plant in Culver. As soon as material can be secured for the purpose a number of business buildings are to be erected in Culver Deschutes V for the housing of various industrial enterprises. That Culver Is the railroad town of the Desihules Valley is beyond ques tion now The new railroad plat of Culver Junetlou shows four tracks through the town one main line, two long sidings, and an Industrial track facing the warehouse sices, which are laid out by the railroad company and extend from the junction polut en tirely through tiie townsite.
