Miss Hnzsl Harnett Is visiting in Port
land. Mrs. Grant and family were here Sat
urdny from their home near Lamonta.
Mrs. Fannie Wright, of Portland, is
visiting at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. George Osboru, at Culver.
Harry A, Stout was In town the first of
the week from his ranch on the Mamies
Rive, buying supplies from local mer
chants. J. M. Mayes and wife have gone to
Odell nhd Crescent Lake at the head
waters of the Deschutes to spend a few
weeks,
A. P. Seybold Is the name of the new
bookkeeper at the Central Oregon Mer
cantile Company's store. He came from
Spokane.
Seth S. Crawford, of Culver, was here
Tuesday with G, Spniiger and William
Hantans witnesses, making final proof on
his homestead.
Henry Ilivins has moved his watch
repairing nnd jewelry shop into the build
ng formerly occupied by the restaunnt
list south of the post oflice.
Oliver L. Mcfiowell made proof as the
heir, of his son, Archie A. McDowell, de
ceased, on the tatter's homestead claim
near Culver, before the U. S. Commis
sioner here, Tuesday,
Sheriff Frar.k Elkins came down from
the county seat Monday to serve some
civil papers on reridentsin this part of the
county Our sheriff states that he will
be a candidate for re-election.
Miss Susie Urogan of Antelope, is now
employed at the Madrai Trading Com
pany's store, and will assist with the work
there during the abtence cf Mr. and Mrs.
C. E. Koush, on their summer vacation.
The W. C. T. U . wilt hold a service
at the M. E. Church Sunday evening

W. II. Sayre took a load of passengers
to Shamko in his auto Tuesday and on
the return trip broke an axle near Cross
Keys. He phoned in for J. C. Robinson
who went out and made the repair at that
place.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Roushand Charles
Tunstall have gone to Fish Lake, on the
Santiam Road for a few weeks of recrea
tlon. Mr. Tunstall took a team with the
camp outfit, and Mr. Roush and wife will
make the trip on horseback.
W. C IHanchard, who has been living
in the vicinity of I'nneville for several
months, returned to his ranch near Meth
odist Hill this week and is putting the
Hlanchard Bros, threshing machine in
shape for the threshing season.
The five year olJ apple trees on the
Steve Hinder place on Agency I'hins are
loaded with as fine apples as ever grew
anywhere this season. They are large
and clean, superbly colored and the or
chard of 1O0 trees presents a splendid
picture.
Tucker & Culps gas engine used to
operate their machinery in their black
smith shop went on a spree Tuesday and
tore itself all to smithereens. A pin
worked loose and did the damage. They
plan to replace the old engine with a new
one of 8 H. P.
Jerry Cramer was taken seriously ill
the first of the week by the return of a
trouble in his leg caused by a wound re
ceived while in the army. Dr. Belknap
and Sherift Elkins came in from Prine
ville Tuesday in the lalters car and took
him to that city for treatment. He was
no better at last reports.
George Lytic and wife were here Fri
day from Haycreek. They have soio
their pluce on the road between Haycreek
and Limor.ta, which is a popular stop
ping place for freighting outfits to Roy
Goff, the price being $4000. Mr. ana
