Many Inquiries Recelvee
From Homeseekers
At tho reorganization meeting of the
Hoard of Trade held Iimt Friday even
ing it whh decided to change the name
of the huiiliit'HHmcn'fi association to the
Madras Commercial Club.
Ofiicern elected were an follows: A.
C. Sanford, President; Dr. T. A. Long,
vIce-preHident; C. A. Kiddle, Bccrctary;
H. W. Turner, iiHHihtant Hecretary; J.
M. Conklin, treasurer.
John McTaggart' C. E. Roush and
It. T. OIhoii, together with the presi
dent and Hecretary are to constitute the
board of directors.
Meetings arc to bo held twice each
month, on the first und third Mondays.
Membership dues arc one dollar per
month.
The meeting on Friday was adjourn
ed to Monday evening. At this time a
committee on constitution and by-laws
was appointed as follows: C. A. Riddle,
L. F. Rice, and Ora VanTasscl. This
committee a to report at once and a
special meeting will probably be called
in a few days to take up the report of
this committee and to open the rolls
for membership. As a matter of fact
the rolls are now open to membership
but those who have paid their dues up
to the present have not signed a cons
titution, nor do they know what cons
titutes their membership.
The general opinion expressed at the
two meetings held this week was that
it is essential for the club to at once
prepare some literature to send to peo
ple who are addressing inquiries for in
formation about this section to the club,
and to provide a fund so that matters
of benefit to Madras and vicinity can
be taken up by the club as they arise.
Future plans also provide for the main
tenance of club rooms where the mem
bers can meet socially and where visi
tors to the city can meet the business
men.
Many letters arc being received right
now from people who wish to come to
Madras to locate. The only available
information at present that can be read
ily mailed them is the folders that have
been put out by the real estate firms,
and copies of the local paper. It takes
a little money to provide postage and
printed matter. It is for this purpose
that a canvass of the citizens of the
town will shortlv be made by the olll
cers of the club, and the endeavor to
get every man in town on the roll will
be made.
