The hardest ' 7lf t0 m 11,0 iHUessary ul8 wheie the wheel was to be installed. All the mate rial was lowered from the plain above (500 feet io the water's odge. A wheel was built seven feet iu diameter and two feet, eiglu inches across the face. The other machinery and flume were then arranged and secure ly fastened to the rocks to pre vent them from being damaged or washed away by high water. Eleven hundred and sixty feet of pipe aie used in making the raise of exactly C2o feet. As the work proceeded farm ers throughout the entire sec tion became interested and as the final adjustments were be ing made they watched the work with much concern. On Saturday, lust, everything was iu readiness and the water was turned over the wheel. As the pump commenced to work the pipe tilled and then water poured onto the plains above. As if to christen the successful enterprise, Mr. Christeneon, who was at the mouth of the pipe, caught the tirst water that came and poured it back over the olifF. A group of people were across the river on Opal Prairie watching and when the spark ling water was seen they shout ed and waved their hats in joy, realizing evidently what the success meant to them and their neighbors. The total cost of the apparatus, Mr. Duvenport says, is not to exceed $000 and with the experience he has had he believer a similar plant Cjiild be installed for a Utile more than 000.
