THIS FALL 350 Purses for Baseball BOARD MAKE EARLY START Plan to Best Mako County Show the Ever Attempted After Band Already The board of director? of the Crook County Pair Association met Saturday to discuss ways and means for the fair this fall. Larger purses will be hung up for baseball. It was decided to give $350 toward a baseball tournament; $200 for first mon ey, $100 for second and $50 for third. Besides the cash prizes the association will offer a championship silver cup to be the property of the club that can win it three times in suc cession. The ball tournament will commence on Thursday, October 20, and continue Fri day and Saturday. The games will be played in the forenoon so as to not interfere with the racing. The association has granted the free use of the fair grounds to the baseball boys for prac tice or for match games. The board took up the mat ter of securing a band for the fair this fall. A committee was appointed to see what could be done in this respect and will report at a later meeting. The members of the director ate are getting down to busi ness early this season and seem to be imbued with a determina tion to make the fall fair sur pass anything before attempt ed. This power company is a cor poration composed of 10 local men. They own all the power at Cline Fulls in the Deschutes River four and one-half miles west of here. At this time they are at work on the main power plant. This plnnt will develop two units of 750 horse power each. The following shows the total eliminations from each of four National forests in the state: Malheur, 4485 acres; Whitman, 01,750; Deschutes, 16,152, and Umatilla, 69.51S. ELECTRIC LIGHTS FOR REDMOND An electric lighting plaat has been ordered for Redmond Sixtn street ana the dilierent business houses will be a blaze of light just as soon as the Crook County Light & Power Company can get a dynamo and other necessaries in from Portland and the system in stalled. That may not require more than 60 days. The plant to be installed at this time will be temporary but large enough to cure for the present needs of the town. While the community has been developing in every detail, the affairs ot the Crook County Water, Light & Power Com pany have been going ahead apace. They have been stead ily at work on their power proposition at Cline Falls, but it developed that it would be the end of the year at the earli est before the water power plant can be put into operation The company thought that would be too long to wait and ordered the temporary plant. The order was placed Mon day with J. B. Prem, traveling agent of Fairbanks, Morse & Co., and was the culmination of considerable correspondence between the power company and the manufacturers on the subject of machinery. The or der is for dynamo, lamps with all the necessary fixtures, New Special Electric engine and the necessary wire. Poles will be procured in this locality. It is the intention of the company to distribute 400 candle power ol light lor illuminating Sixth street.
