Representatives of L E. Thompson Co., have just returned from the valley, fairly bursting with enthusiasm for the sights they have seen, the railroad con struction work they have witnessed and the wonderful future that is apparent nt every hnnd. "Out of all the wonderful districts is certain to come two, at least, large, thriving cities. There will be other smaller towns, of course. Our purpose, however, was to select the best or noth ing. As a result of our unsparing efforts we are prepared to state that Bend is, in our judgment, as certain to be the big city of the irrigation country in Crook County as anything can be. In the dry farming country to tho North Madras is the coming city". CENSUS ENUMERATORS HAVE BEEN APPOINTED The taking of the thirteenth Federal census will begin on April 15. One of its most important features, Uie fak ing o,f farm statistics, au,d (arpyjrB should at once prepare q meet tk.e rea sonable questions of the enumerators with as accurate information, as pp,ss ble. S$. 0. Heach, census siipe'rYi.sor of this district, is very anxious thqt farm ers and stockmen, familiarise themselves with the questions that will be asked them, and haye their answers ready for enumerator when he calls. It is very important that a complete and accurate census of farming products and livestock he obtained. This will be impossible without the cooperation of tho livestock and farming interests, and in order that you may be piepared for the visit p,f the census enumerator, a copy of the general agricultural schedule on. which the enumerator will report your farm or ranch has been mniled to a considerable number of farmers and stockmen whose names could be obtain ed. It is .desired that you will read the instructions printed on this schedule and fill it out as completely as you can in advance of tho enumerator's visit, giving special attention to the number and value of live slock in your possession. You should report a)l domestic ani mals on your farm or ranch on April 15, 1910. If you make use of the public domain in connection with your farm or ranch, you should report all domestic animals belonging to you and under your care op that date, even though a part or all of them are being grazed on the public' domain, and are not kept on your farm or ranch. The advance receipt of this schedule will not only give you qn opportunity to prepare carelul answers to the questions asked, but will save both you and the enumerator considerable time when he calls lo see you. SHOOTING AFFRAY AT M'KAY CREEK IS FATAL A shooting affair that resulted lfataly occurred North of Prineville on McKay Creek country, Tuesday afternoon about 4 p. m., when George Estcy, shot and almost instantly killed a man by the nnmo of Reynolds, who was herding a band of sheep for Ollio Jones, nlso of Prineville. It seems that Estey and Jones had been having some trouble in regard to their bands of seeep feeding in tho same vicinity, and Jones threatened lo kill Estov on sight. Tuesday afternoon as their bands camo close together, Estey presumed that Jones was with his own sheep, but instead lie had that day sent his herder, Mr. Reynolds, who opened fire on Estey. Estey' returned tho fire, hitting Reynolds onco in tho head, and again in tho neck. Estey camo to Prineville and told tho ollleeis that he had killed Jonvs, but on going to tho scene of tho shooting it was discovered that it was the herder instead of Jones. Tho romnins wero taken to Prinoville and placed in diare of A. II. Lippinan, and an inquest will he held today. Estey has not boon placed uudor ar rest, ami probably will wot ho unless tho eoronor's jury finds him guilty. Ac cording to reports tho shooting was en tirely in self defense.
