Water hl'GHT not settled
Invie'vof the financial con
ditions of the Deschutes Irriga
tion & Power Company of Bend,
and the question pending of thif
early survey and filing on Cres
cent Lake, the prospects are noi
Very favorable for any action on
their part for the developemein
of the Benham Fails project on
which this wuter was expected
to be used. In fact the time haf
nearly expired, under the state
law, in which they were required
to complete their workj which,
in some instances seems to hav
been overlooked, until it came
to be known that others desired
to make a filing on the same
lake for. the benefit of the Opal
Prairie and Agency Plains
Country.
The parties desiring to place
water on the Northwestern jJari
of Crook County, have been de
layed by the above mentioned
filing, and if there is not some
way that this matter can be
adjusted, the outlook for irriga
tion here is slim. Steps have
been taken to place the mattej
before the proper officials at
. Washington. The report is that
favorable action and assistance
will be given this measure.
The Senate has passed the bill
authorizing an issue of 830,000,
000 worth of certilicates of in
debtedness to complete existing
irrigation projects. This is a
measure that will not only has-1
ten the date when thousands of
Hettlers along the uncompleted
projects can begin getting their j
land into prodiicteve shape, but
it will also enable the Govern
ment to realize on its investment
which will remain worthless un
til the lands are provided with
water. Very few projects for
which the Government appro
priates money will make as large
returns on the investment as
will be secured from the various
