County Commissioner Hayley of Laid law nrrived ih town Mohday and has ioined Road viewer Elliott and County Surveyor Rice, who have been viewing out the several roads ordered viewed at ihe last ttirm of the counly court. Superintendent of Construction hur dick, for Porter HrotheM, went through Madras Tucnlay morning on his way to the railroad camp on Crooked Rivfcr. Hay Hammer, who is running the Hay stack ranch of his father, W, F, Ham mer, bad the misfortune to fracture his leg just above the ankle. The fracture was reduced lly Dr. Snook and Mr rlam mer is doing well under thocfrcumstances The 1 2th annual convention of the Or egon Wool Orv.ver Association will be held at J'endleton, Oregon, November and 10, ir)o0. The program is the best and most instructive yet arranged , and prominent and expert men will address the convention on subjects most vital and important to the sheep and wool industry Dan I'. Smythe, secretary o the associa tion, issues a cordial Invitation to all those interested In sheep and wool growing to attend the convention at Pendleton. Dr. John Lewlns, who will be jo Mad ras early in November to assist the pastor of the M. U, church in a scries of special meetings, deljvered several Ictures before the Crook Count Teachers Institute, and those who were present will long remem ber his great lecture on "Character Uuild ing." Rev. Reed, a special singer, will accompany Dr. Lewlns, nnd the people of Madias should avail themselves of atterute io the terviccs conducted by these Chris tian gentlemen. VV. The work ol getting the plant in operations 'is bcipg pushed as rapidly as possible, as It is desired to get the first contract of 500,000 brick burned before the cold weather sets iu. Willi this end iu view, Mr. McNealey is work ing crews both night and day at the brick yard, J. C, ,Vnymire, who has owned and operated the large pumping plant and feed mill o,n his ranch adjoining the town site, has Isnoscd of his interests here, including hjs, rpnch and. residence, Fred Green of Culver has takeo over4lhe resi dencc and ptlmping plant and expects to thkc possession as soon as other business matters will permiti .It is understood the price paid is $2000. The land, with the exception of, a small tract, was sold to Duncan McLeod of I'Hneville, and It i3 reported the tract will be platted, as soon as practicable, placed on the market and sold principally for residence purposes t The purchase price was $3300.
