mary department in the Madras public
school last year, and her work was most

NEW BANK WILL SOON OPEN
. In a message from j. M. Conklin of
Portland, yesieiday, it is learned that he
expects to return to Madras not later than
the 30th of this month and that the new
bank will be ready to transact a general
banking business before October i. Mr.
Conklin slates that he hat purchased one
of the latest nnd most modern vaults to
be usrd in connection with the bank,

which gives nturnn.'c that the schemes of
cracksmen and like craft will be of no
avail agairut this institution.
' The incorporation papers are being
prej)rrd and all the necessary arrage
merits will be attended to by Mr. Conk
lin while in Poiiland, and as soon as he
returns to Madras (here will be a meeting
of the persons who desire lo take stock in
the institution, a beard of directors elect

at an early date.

River Conference of the M. E church,

the Methodist charge of Madras and vi

ple of this community, as Mr. Mooihead
is carrying on a good work here, and his
