Peter Marnach was in town from his
home at Methodist Hill, South of Madras
yesterday. He states that he has been all
over the fanning district in that poition of
the county nnd that never before has he
seen plump grain as the fields will turn
off this year. The grain berries, are said
to be perfectly developed this season and
the quality' of wheat, which is always
good, vill be of the very highest this
year. Ciook County Journal.
Rnscoe Howard, manager of the Des
chutes Irrigation Company, was in town
la Fiiday on hi way home from Port-
Jand. He was accompanied by Attorney
General Crawford, who was on his way to
liend to look over the irrigation work in
that src'non, all of which is being done
under the Car'y Aci and under the super
vision of ihe Slate Land Hoard, of which
Atiorney General Crawford is a member
MRS. A. J. tlUBLE DEAD
Martha A., wife of Andrew J. Ruble,
died at her home near Cutver Saturday,
uly 24, 1909, at the age of 66 years.
Deceased was a native of Indiana, having
been born in Lawrence county that state
In 1843. She was married to 'Andrew J .
Ruble in 'Jamestown, Texas, in i'86'7, and
resided there for some time, moving to
Oregon with her husband and family in
880. Since that time, for nearly a quar-;
ter of a century, Mrs. Ruble has been a
resident of Crook County. Five children
were born to her, and of them three,
Katie, Walter nnd Lucy, are living and
with the aged husband mourn her loss.
Mrs. Ruble joined the Baptist church
when 17 years of age and since that time
has been an active, consistent Christian
worker up until the lime of her death.
He remains were laid at rest in Grey
Hutte Cemetery last Sunday in the pres
ence of n large roncourse of sorrowing
friends and relatives, Rev. I D. Brown
of the Madras Baptist church conducting
the funeral services.
