It is understood that if permission can be secured from the postal department of the government, the main star route in this county, running from Shaniko to Prineville, and from which all other offices in the county are served, will bo shifted to tho West side. The change contemplated would bring the mail for every postoflice in the county except Ash wood, Ileisler and Haycreek through Madras, and this office would become the distributing point for a number ol offices. Tho details of the plan which will bo laid beforo the department have not b.een made public, but it is understood that it will follow closely a plan to which tho postal authorities agreed several years ago, but which changes failed to go through at that time. The main mail route of the county, instead of go ing by way of Ileisler and Haycreek, will come by way of MadraB, which would become a distributing point with lines diverging at this place to serve Prineville and Bend and way-points. The present mail service to Madras, which cornea from Heisler, is not unsat isfactory, b"ut the changes contemplated would give a much better service to a number of other ofliccs ou this side of the county, and it would not in tho least impuir the good servies to Prine villo. In fact, in vho Winter season when the roaJs are heavy the West side roads are much better than the road over Grizzly, and time would be saved. In addition to tho advantage in the roads, tho now plan would at tins point lighten the mails which the stages have to carry, because the mails for Bend and all tho Southwestern part of tho county would bo dropped by the Prineville stago at Madras, instead of going on to Prineville as at present. It is understood that G. M. Cornet, mail contractor on the Shaniko-Frine-ville route, is favorable to the proposed change, and will Use his best efforts to secure favorable consideration of the plan by the department, and as there appears to be no source from which objection may reaepnably come, it is likely that tho chaugo will be made. PASTURING SHEEP ON THE RESERVATION A nuinbi-r of sheep will bo grazed on tho Warmspring Reservation this sea son. Last week J..D. McAudio.of Ante lope crossed at tho ferry with two largo bands of sheep, numbering about 5500, and theBO will be grazed on the slope of tho mountain ou tho West side of the reservation. Tho Baldwin Sheep & Land Company of Haycreek has aled secured some range on tho reservation this year and will tako several bands of sheen across at once. This range is rented bv it - mo sneepmen iroin tho government, and the proceeds go into tho fund for this reservation. Summer range is becominc a trouhln- somo question for sheepmen, aa tho number of sheep permitted on both tho uuio mountain and Cascado reserves has been reduced in tho last two vpiii b When theso reductions are made, the flocks of sheepmen using tho roeorves are reduced proportionately, and tliPA cuts havo forced Sheepmen either to unu now range or reduce tho'number of sheep they uro running. KLAMATH CELEBRATES RAILROAD DAY Sovon thousand Railroad Day in Klamath Falls last Moiiday, and tho advent of the rallrpad in that Bection waa made tho occasion for one of the most enthuBlastio cetebra tlous ever witnessed I pon, The Southern Pacific railroad was completed to Klamath Falls May 14, arid the bite celebration last Monday, preparation for which Una been under wdy for it month, was to commemorate the realiiatlutl tif their hope-Of man long years, 17, 1909. MADRAS SCHOOL BOND,S TO BE SOLD JUNE 21 The bonds for $3000 recently voted by the Madras school district for tho pur pose of building ft new schoolhouso will bo sold June 21. Tho County Treasurer has advertised for bids, which will bo opened on that date. It is understood that Morris Bros, of Portland will offer a small premium for the bonds, and they doubtless will bo tho purchasers. The price which it is understood they will offer will net tho district about $3025. Tho sum secured from tho sale or the bonds will go into tho building fund for tho new schoolhouso. This fund will be increased by $-100 from tho sale of the old school building, enabling the district, to build and pay for the building, tho plana for which wera recently adopted by the board. BAPTIST ASSOCIATION CLOSES ITS MEETINGS Thfl Middle Orecoii Baptist Associa tion closed its sessions at this place last Sunday evening, and all of tho visiting members have departed for their homes. COLLECTING MATERIAL FOR SCHOOL BU1LDIHG The plans for the new school building in the Madras district Jiaa been ap proved by the county school superin tendent and the contractors aro getting matters in -shape to begin construction aH soon as material can bo placed on the ground. An order for the lumber has been placed with the Compton & Dee sawmill and a portion of it lias al i eady been sawed out, f. F. Shutt, who is one of tho con tractors, says there will be no difficulty about completing the building iu time for the Fall term of school. Ue says it will bo several weeks beforo work on the building can begin, as it will tako that time to get the materials on hand, but this delay will not interfere with the completion of tho building within tho time specified. WILL PLAY BALL WITH WARMSPRING TEAM A third game of ball has been ar ranged between tho Madras baseball team and tho Warmsprings Indian team, and it will 1-e played at the agency Sat urday, June 20. Tho local team has accepted and will go to tho agency a week from next Saturday. ,The Madras and Indian teama have played two games this season and the Madras boys won both games. At the next game the Indiana will have their regular team together, and they expect to put up the beat gamo of the series. Gray, who ia clerk of tho sohnnl diBtnct, will doubtless bo elected to suc ceed himsolf.
