Last Monday evening fire destroyed
Ihe building owned by the Grizzly Lake
Lumber Company at the North end of
Main street and occupied by F. L. Kulp
as a residence, with all the contents of the
building, consisting of furniture, house
hold goods, a piano and other properly
of Mr. Kulp. The fire was discovered
shortly after 1 1 o'clock, and had already
made such progresi that it was impossi
ble to save the building or even any of
the contents. Mr. Kulp was out of town
at the time and his family were spending
the night at (he hotel, so there was no
one in the building, The origin of the
fire is unknown. Mrs. Kulp prepared
supper at the house but left sliorily after
wards, and the only theory entertained is
that the fire caught from one of the stoves
in which a small fire had been left burn
ing, The loss on Ihe building was prob
ably Siooo, with no Insurance, and the
loss of the contents amounted to several
tiious.ind dollars, with Siqoo insurance
This is the third dwelling house to burn
in Madras within two months, the George
Loucks cottage having byrned early in
January and the Smith house occupied by
Charles Waterhoue having burned in
the early part of this month,
