The George Loucks coltagc, which
wits occupied uy Key. II. L. Hell nnd
family, cntij-ht fire nboul 2130 .Sunday
afletnnon and wos burned to the ground.
The first intimation the Hell family had
that their dwellin was in dancer was
when a neighbor rushed in nt the door nnd
told thrin (0 save what they could thai
the whole tori of the hotrie was on fire,
The weather on Sunday wns ni the
zero point nil day, nnd ns a hot fire was
kept In the stove, it is probable that some
object Ijjniied from being too near the
stove pipe which passed through the roof,
the fire having gained such headway be
fore being discovered that il w.n im
possible to ascertain just how the fire
originated.
The upstairs must have been afire 15
or 20 minutes before being discovered,
us when the neighbors threw the stair
door open it was found that tile upder
rooms were filled with smoke ,and fire
with little or no possibility of it being ex 1
tinj-ujshed, as the snow on the rool, had
smothered the fire until the whole upstairs
wns in flames before the fire was notice
able from the cutii'de.
The loss was quite heavy to the family
of Mr. Hell ns most all their clothes,
bedding nnd provisions were upstairs nnd
noun was snved. Everything down stairs
was nvrd which included household
furniture, organ, bookcase nnd books,
stoves, etc.
Neighbors nt once came to Kev.
Hell's assistance , nnd the family has
gladly accepted Tnbcde with friends until
such n timefnstihcy can procure bedding
and oilierhotuhold neccwariei nnd ob
tain another fresidrr.ee in Madras. A
subsciip'.ion wns : ciiculaied 111 behalf of
Rev. I)ellnnd family and the amount of
511090 uns raised, which will consider
ably, ameliorate their'.disirrjs.
