Fort Rock Is a comparatively new settle
ment about 25 miles North by West
from Silver Lake and a few miles East of
what is known as the "horse ranch," Fort
Rock takes ils name from a somewhat
circular form of volcanic rock jutting
from the level plain a hundred feet or
more in places and forming nn inclosure
resembling a lort. About six or ciht
acres are inclosed by the rock with un
opening probably not more than 200 feet
wide. There is a large area of fanning
and grazing land in that vicinity and it is
said thnt water has been secured in wells
by digging from 12 to 25 feet.
