In May, 1853, Louis Daniel Beauper
thuy, a native of Gundaloupe and

lie had made a microscopic study of the
blood and secretions in every type of
fever and had discovered that yellow
fever resulted from the stings of sev
eral species of mosquitoes. "The mos

properties akin to that of snake venom.
It softens the red blood corpuscles,
causes their rupture, nnd facilitates the
