Bethel Looking Over Lino
N. W, Hcthel, locating engineer on the
North Hank road, and who has recently
been identified with the revived Oregon
Trunk Linn project tip the Deschutes
canyon, was in Madras Tuesday. Ho
spent the day here and in this vicinity, go
ing down lhe Willow Creek canyon afoot
in lhe f(iruiiooi). Mr. Bethel's present
connection with t he Oregon Trunk Lino
has Inicti urged as proof positive that Hill
is buhlnd that project, but on the other
hand n Portland paper is authority for the
sinteincnl thai .Mr. Delhi:) has not been 111
the Hill employ for three years and that
his connection witn the Oregon Trunk bus
no significance so far as Hill is concerned.
At any rate, the presence of an engineer
of Mr. lkthel's prominence inspecting the
survey of the Oregon Trunk Line into
Madra, indicates that this project is a
very live one. It is known tlitit two sur
veying parties in the employ of this com
pany nic now Checking up the surveys in
the Deschutes canyon made two years
ago.
1 Mr. Bethel was accompanied by a Mr.
Crnnc, who remained here, and who yes
terday drove down to the mouth of Trout
Creek. From remarks let chop it is be
lieved that n parly of surveyors will be
put to work here at once, ruiining a line
down Willow Creek.
An attempt was made to interview Mr.
Hcthel during his vint here, but he had
nothing to say for publication.
