engaged in business at Albany,
L. A, Hunt nnd Robert Galloway have
rented the blacksmith shop formerly con
ducted by A. VV. Culp. They will put in
some new machinery nnd fit the place up
for n first class blacksmithing and repair
shop, nntl expect to open for business by
the middle of September.
Charles T, Pembroke was in town last
Thursday on his way to Lamonta, where ,
he is grilling n well on the Asa Mishlcr
place. Mr, i'embroke has a honnstcad
on Agency Plains, having purchased the
relinquishment of the quarter known as
the Edie Flhcr homestead.
John E. Keichcn returned last week
fiom Salem, where he recently graduated
from Willamette University. He will
upend the remainder of the Summer vaca
lion nt his home near this place, after
which he will go to Tillamook, where he
has A position as teacher of history in the
high school.
Miles W, Dennett nnd family, who
have been spending the past year nt their
old home nt Ilatavla, Iowa, t etui tied to
Madras Tuesday. Mr. Hennett owns a
quatlcr section ol land Southwest of this
place. He is looking for a house to rem
in Madras, nnd expects to live in town
this winter in order that his children may
attend school,
A. VV. Moses and wife, recently of Cor
vnllis, were m Madras last Saturday, be
ing enroute to Wamispring agency, where
Mr. Moses has accepted
