in Martras lait Sunday morning, oiii);
to a wreck on the Columbia Southern
Railway Saturday evening. The detail
of the wreck could not be learned, further
than that the Shahiko train wasofVthc
ttnek at Gnus Valley. Only letter mail
was brought through.
Uwiglit Roberts of Culver, was in Mad
ms last .-atur(iay. .'Mr. lumens is uic
mail carrier on the tmal free route at Cut
vcr, and he lias just purchased a new
mall wauon for the route. The new ve
hicle is painted white, and is closed in
with glass windows to protect the mail
and the carrier from the weather. It is
fitted nut with peon holes and letter
boxes like a miniatuic postolllce, lor the
accommodation of the patrons of the
route.
W C. Conleton, candidate for the
Democratic nomination for sheriff, spent
several days in Jhis vicinity durirg the
Week in the interest of his candidacy. Mr.
Colleton had not vimcd this section of
the county before ill 12 years, and he says
that the last time he came thtough this
territory he hnd to $a without his dinner
as there was not a house between Dave
Harnett's place and the J. i. Campbell
ranch, lie was very much surprised at
the chances which have taken place. .Mr.
Conlcton requests us to say, that as he
wa.s unaolc to meet all of the democrats
ol this precinct, he is willing to stand
upou'lua record as a former sheriff of the
County, and he relers iiiem 10 any one
who was a citizen of the county at tnai
time as to his qualifications.
