and Shaniko, and IhienterpriHC was
ahandoned by Mr. Thomson and his

making the preliminary arrangements.
II has been reported hero that the
Holt Manufacturing Company, manu
facturers of the traction outfit, intended
trying to operate-the train successfully
this Bjiring, hutfr. Thomson says he
knows nothing about It. Jtis generally
known that the traction outfit was sold
to tho Crook County company under a
guarantee that it could bo aucccsafully
operated, and under that kind of an
agreement, tho local company refused
to accept the on 111 t after the unsuccess
ful trial was made last Full. Before
theyf can be compelled to accept the
traction outfit, the feasibility of the
project will bava to be demonstrated,
and it. may be that this may occasion
another trial by the manufacturing
company this Spring. However, if tho
traotion outfit can be successfully oner-,
ated, Mr. Thomson and bis associates
will doubtless be very glad to take the
property, as the freighting company
would have all thu freight it could handle.

AGENCY PLAINS FARMERS
TO ORCANIZE UNION
Will Form Branch of National Edu
cotlorial and Co-Oporativo Union
A meellng of farmers on Agency
Plains has been called for next Satur
day evening, for the purpose of organ
izing a branch of the National Far
mers' Educational and Co-operative
Union of America. The meeting will
be held at the Ilranstetter schoolhouse
ayl all farmers on the plains Inter
ested in the movement are requested
to meet there Saturday night.
The organization on Agency Plains
will bo along the Hues of the national
union, some of the purposes of which
organization, as set forth in the pre
amble to their constitution, are us
follows: - -
To assist members in buying and
selling; to educate the agricultural
class in scientific farming; to dis
courage the credit and mortgage sys
tern , to systematize methods of pro'
miction ami illstriuution; to secure
and maintain profitable and uniform
prices for grain and other products ; to
bring farming up to tbe standard of
other industries and business enter
prises.
SMALL BOYS TOUCH OFF POWDER
Harold Kiddle and tbe little son of
Mr. Piiey were oulte feeverely burned
last Wednesday by the explosion of a
email quantity of gun powder to which
they touched a match. The little
fellows were playing over near the
slaughter-pen when they found a
thumb-stuU filled with powder, which
had been thrown away by Jim Hurt,
who had used it as a poultice for a
felon on hi thumb. Pouring out the
powder on (he ground the boys
crowded around it to see It ''go oil""
when they touched a match to it

the face more or less, hut little Harold

large patches, and within a few mo
ineins utter the explosion his eyes
were entirely closed by the swelling
and his companions hud to lend him
hack lo town. It was feared that lib
eyea were injured, but when 'the
swelling was reduced It was found thai
only the extrrlor of the lids was-
urned. The little Filey boy was abo
burned quite severely, but his injiiih
were not serious enough to contiue
him to his bed.
CHRISTIAN CHURCH TO BE BUILT SOON
Elder K. P. Moon,' who conducted a
very t-uccissful series of revival meet
ings for the Christian Church ut this
piace, Jeff last Monday for Prinevllle,
whero he will hold meetings during
thu next month. As a result of the
interest aroused hero during Mr.
Moon's stay, it has been definitely
decided lo erectz-a Christian church

pointed United States District Attorney

last week for the purpose of discussing
the matter, and it is said that tiip

of the Willamette Valley road from,

to Foley Springs, about ten mile
west of the summit, and thirty miles
from Sisteis. They have material .on
