Madras this week, visiting relatives,

George Osborn at Culver last Sunday.

Ashwood were guests of Mr. and Mrs.
J. C. Robinson in Madras this week.
The reconstruction of the county bridge
across Trout Creek at Cross keys has

Hui ton of the Little (Mains, arrived Ian
week from Umatilla county, after an

to remain here for a couple of mouths.
Mr. and Mrs. 1". Van Ilyning of
Michigan passed through Madras the'
first of the week cmoutc to Redmond to
join relatives who ictidc there. Tlicy
expect to locate permanently in that
district.
A merry crowd of young people danced
the old year out and the New Year in at.
Sanfords Hall last Tuesday night. The
ball was announced h a masquerade, but
only a few maskers were prcaent. About
50 numbers weic sold.
The belated sMpmcnt of 8000 flour
sacks for the Madras Milling Company
Atrivcd the last of the week and Monday
morning the mill resumed grinding after
an enforced idleness of two weeks. The
mill guilds about 150 sacks of flour
daily.

Lamouta, and Madras. Those in charge
of the daucci arc arranging so that none
of the dates will conflict as many of the
young folks desire to attend all of the
parties,
James W. Hurt drove to Shaniko the
last of the week with his wife ilud Mrs.
W. Ct Hlanchntd. Mrs, Hurt was on
her way to visit her patents at Sweet
Home, while Mrs. Hlanchard was going
to Jefferson to attend the sickbed of her
father.
C. C. Mastcn and wife, of Astoria,
Oregon, were southbound passenger on
Tuesday's s;agc. Mr. Mastcn is a lum
berman and is looking over the timber
district in the Deschutes country during
the shut-down of the mills on the lower
Columbia.
S. A. I), puter, convicted of land fraud
and sentenced to 3 years impiisonnient,
has been pardoned by President Roose-
veltiaficr sctving about a year am) a half.
It is understood, that Puter is to furnish
evidence to the, Government in the coming
land fraud trials.
Very little business has, been transacted
in .the (Wheat mnrkct this week. The hol
iday sentiment petvades the trade in gen
eral and every, one is waiting for the open
ing of the new year.. Prices are more or
less nominal ns a resultbut the undertone
of the market continues quite firm. The
fanners who still have possession of their
crops have confidence, in the future of the
market and are making no saciifices
