C. H. McCorkle, a prominent rancher
arid stockman from Illirraid Hideo, was a
visitor in Madras yesterday. Mr. Mo
Corklc says that not a great deal of wheat
is being raised in his neighbor hood as yet,
but he believes in lime that will become a
good wheat district also, Mr. .McCorkle
was at one time tux assessor of Crook
County.
G. M . Cornell of Princvillc and A. G.
Scoggin of Paulina were in Madras Fri
day and Saturday, with about 3.1 head of
burses winch they were Hading for grain.
They found a ready sate for the borsci

The grain was wanted lor feed, and will
be hauled out of brre to Princvilln.
A new room is being added to the
Agency Plains school building, to accom
modate the growing attendance, which
will reach between sixty and seventy
before Spring. Miss Marie Galloway of
this place tenches the first six grades of
(he school, and Prof, P, C. Fulton
leaches the seventh, eighth and ninth
grades. This is the first year the ninth
grade has been taught on the Plains, and
Prof. Fulton already has eleven pupils in
that grade, including several from the
Madras district who arc attending the
Agency l'lains school this year becauc
of (be failure of (his district to provide a
higher grade than the eighth for the
Madras school.
W. F. Hcrbcrger, who has been ap
pointed Government farmer at the
Warnistiiing Agency, and who will have
charge of the experimental dry larm
(here, was in Madia last Monday morn
ing on his way to the Agency to take up
his duties. Mr. Hcrbcrger is new in the
.ovcrnment service, Ibis being bis fust
appointment since he look the Civil Sci-
ice examination for the purpose of en
tering the Government's employ. He
as, however, had a number ol years of
service on Government rcscrv.uions in
the employ of private parties, having been
in charge of farms on both the Hlackfooi
and the Ncz Perce reservations. As
Government farmer Mr. Hcrbcrger will
Inve charge of the new experimental diy
faim nt the reservation, the progress and
csults of which will he watched with
much intuicst hy the farmers of this lo
cality. He did not know when here just j
whaj plans had been outlined for the
experiment in dry farming at the reserva
tion, his orders being nieicly to reiKiit to
Superintendent Covey at the Agency.

end. A meeting was held at the home of
Mis. M. E. Snook last week, and com
mittees were appointed to take charge of
Ijie, various details to make the occasion a
success. There will be appropriate exer
cises first, followed by the presentation ol
gifls, and no effort will be made to see
that everyone goes away happy.
