The fruit exhibit coming friftii the several dill'uront dis trict of tho county, was a remarkably fine one, and the exhibit of apples otpiclally would have compared favor ably with that of some of tho famous" Iruit districts of the state. The exhibit of lino blooded stock. for which Crook County has long been fumouH was an especially attractive feature of tho fair, .and no other de partment .of tho, exhibition ultracted more attention from visitors to the fair. Iong famotiH for its cattle ami sheep, Crook County is also becoming famous Jor Its flno blooded horses, anil the exhibit of horses in both (he draft and speed classes was by long odds the best ever given In tho county. There was Home disappointment because of the failure to bring out a good fllieep exhlblr, for Crook County sheep huvo been prize winners wherever shown and thlh county is tho lioino of tho largest thoroughbred sheep ranch in tho world. The failure of tills oxhib- it was duo to the fact that tho J3aldwln company of IJtiycreek were expected to have a largo exhibit of their fine sheep at the fair, although they did not bring any sheep to the fair at all, and rrfuny othersheepmen kept Iheir fine stock away becuuso they did not care to enter Into competition with the famous JJaldwln sheep. Jovers of good horse-mcing also en joyod a Quo exhibition of that snort at the l'rlueville meeting, as there were a largo number of flno runners on hand lo compete in the speed con tests. (Jver forty racehorses were stabled at tho track, and every race was well (II led. It wus good, clean racing, too, and the best horse won in every event. The Culver, Haystack, Lamonta and JIadras sections were all represented at the comity fair during the past week iiy large sized delegations, thin end of the county contributing a goo'd jij'jrufu oi ine large attetulai:ce at me meting, .nost ot those who at tended staved thronciimit th enjoying ti e festivities incident to the uig exuioiiion. The exhibit of their imported Shire horses by the Baldwin Sheep & Land Company of IIa3 creek, at the Crook County fair, va one of the attraction- at this year's meeting. These horse were brought over from Eu'land bv .Mr. Edwards a year or more ago, to be auiieil to thidr fine collection of blooded aulmals at the ranch, and the fact that they were prize-winners in Hughiiid when purchased by the uuinwin company drew many to see them nt Vrineville. Tbe exhibit was in charge of Jim Rice audLyn Nichols. One of the finest exhibits at the Crook County fair this year was the exhibitor line fruit from the Bocll Ranch at the Cove on Crooked Hiver, and no other exhibit at the fair at traded more attention. Fruifs of all kinds were included in the exhibit. and in addition .Mr. Uoegll had an exhibit of English walnuts and nl- inond-j giowu at his famous Htth- ration in crooked Itiver gorge. Gregory, president of the Ore gon Trunk Line railway, spent last I'ridny in Madra", looking after nnit lers in connection with tho railroad project up the Deschutes River to Mad ras, of which he is one of the chief promoters. .Mr. Gregory spent Wed nesday in rrineville, coming over to Madras next evening, and Friday he epetit with one of the company's engi neers going over (lie proposed route up Willow Creek from tho Deschutes to Madras. When Interviewed regarding the prospects for the immediate construc tion ol the rottd up the Deschutes Mr. Gregory was very reticent, confining his comments to tlie present state of tho money market, which, ho says; makes it extremely difficult to iluauce nnyklnd.ofa railroad project at this time.
