Mr. Terril disposed of all his personal property here btlt still holds his 160 acre ranch. Don Kea writes to surprised friends here that he has been beguiled into hard labor, and that he is at present in charge of a sand nnd gravel screening plant at Umatilla, which plant is operated in connection with the Cehln Canal work, ol which Mr. A. li, Hammond has charge. On Halloween, Thursday, October 31, an entertainment and social will be given in Snnfnid'i Hall, the proceeds to go into the funds of the Madras school district. A program appropriate to Halloween will he presented, and afterward refreshments will he served and the time be spent in social session. No admission will be charged, but a collection will be taken, liverybody cordially invited to attend. There will be ghosts and goblins, Jack o. lanterns and pumpkiirpics. The people of J'rinevillc wetc sur prised to learn that Frank Wilson, other, wise known as "Old Smoke," a harmless old man that was nightwatchipan at the Lllotel I'rineville for a long 'time, was arrested as the slayer of Harvey ' K. Brown nf Baker City. Wilson had no trouble in proving an alibi. Leading citizens pf Crawfordsville, Linn county, testified that "Wilson arrived there before the tragedy at Baker and could not pos sibly have taker part in it. Wilson was Yeleased from custody. Robert Kea and the party of engineers of whom he had charge in the re location of ic Oiegon Trunk Line survey up the Deschutes, returned to Portland the last of the p.nt week, having completed their work as far as Shcrar's Bridge. The discrepancies in the former location were only in that poition of the line6 from the mouth nf the river up to Shcrar's, and it was not necessary to correct1 the location above that point.
