Full and game abound in the miner Deschutes country, mid Crane Prairie at this reason of the year attracts many who want a delightful outing and good sport with gun and rod, ' I). W. Adams and Mrs. L. M. Lamb had a narrow escape from serious injury in a runaway accident last Friday. They were driving down the road from the big plains when the horses became frightened and ran, overturning the buggy and throwing both occupants among the rocks that border the road. Roth were considerably bruised and shaken up, but fortunately escaped without serious injury. Fred Fisher has a young driving ani mat with which he expects to make the circuit of race meetings this year, and he confidently expects to make a good show ing in the harness events. The. maie has never been driven in a race and has had but little training, but Mr, Fisher says hc shows enough speed to justify entering her, and he has already arranged to enter her at The Dalles, Redmond and I'rinevillc fairs. Edward C. Pease Co. Incorporated ( Shaniko, Oregon C. I.. I.nwther, who has a ranch near Trail Crossing, was in Bend Tuesday. Mr. Lowther says t hat grain on the dry land in his neighborhood is threshing out a very good yield this year. Wheat runs from 16 to 40 bushels to the ncrc, and oats and barley 30 to 50 bushels. Mr. Lowther has great faith in the Campbell method of dry tanning and he and several f his neighbors are giving it trial. He says that wherever the Campbell system has been given a fair tcM temaikable' results have been obtained in his neighborhood Bulletin. P. B. Davis, ol I'rinevillc, was in town several days this week, accompanied by a Mr. Oliver of Portland. They were gathering data and looking over this sec tion with a view to making investments in the Madras country. Mr. Davis has been an insurance agent in this county fur many years, and it was in his com pany, the Bankers' Life, that the late Homer Street held n policy for $4000 at the time be was blown into the Matoles River. The policy was paid, as Mr, Davis says there was no question of the death o Street, although under the circumstances it was dillicult for the widow to make proof of death, The remains of Rolando Pnrrish, who died at Portland on September 3, were laid at rest in Haycreek cemetery last Friday alternoon, impressive funeral ser vices being conducted by Mt, Jefferson Lodge, 1, 0. O, F., of this place, of which lodge Mr, Punish was one of the barter members. In addition to the Odd Fellows lodge, which attended in a body, a large number of friends of the deceased from this place attended the funeral exercises at (he residence tind ater at the cemetery.
