Asa Clark, who lus accepted a position witli the Pioneer Telephone company, has been in town during tlie week, soliciting contracts for telephone srrvice under the new company. It is proposed to estalv lish a local phono at this place, and then to connect up the bcvornl farming com munities of this locality with the Madias exchange. Mr, Claik lias already secured n number of contracts and it is believed that this sei vice will be estab lished at once. MoiTon Doty, a Poitlaiul traveling man, was in town the Inst of tiie week. Air. Doty is the contestant in the contest filed against the Frank i-"cas homestead on Agency Plains, and which matter is now pending, an appanl having been taken to the Secietary ol the Interior. Mr. Doty won the contest in the land olllce at The Dalles, but on appeal, the decision was ieverod by the General Land Office, and decided tn' favor of Lucas.
