Clarence C. Ashley expects to leave

to some point in the Willamette Valley to

to The Dalles, and go by'boat from there
to Portland, taking his team with him.
He has disposed of his interests in this

Frank Loveland was in town
yesterday irom the Hunter
placf, where he is drilling a
well, lie has been attended by
f more bad luck on the present
hob of drilling, than , would be
required to discourage most
men. After getting down a
couple of hundred feet the drill
broke into a crevice and was
caught, and they were not able
to begin wotk until Tuesday
last, being delated six weeks.
Cn Titesday'morning they gut
the drill to going nicely again,
when one of the parts of the
drill broue, and another sus
pension of the work will be
necessary, as the broken part
will have to be sent to Priue
villa to bo repaired. If perse
verance in the face of repeated
hard luck counti for anything,
Mr. Loveland says that they
expect to solve the water prob
lem on Opal Prairie.

Portland, to have an aitillcial
eye put ill. The little fellow
had the misfortune- to lose an
eye last yenr, as the result of
being bitten by a dog. Every
effort was made to save it, but it
was finally' found to be neces
sary to have the oye removed.
