NEAT, CLEAN, PU PRINTING MUD SPRINGS REPLIES 1 . Says Debating Society Will Probably . Not Accept Challenge Ebitor Pioneer: In the last issue of the Pio neer there appeared a challenge from the president of the Mountain View debating Socie ty for the lylud Springs society to meet them in joint debate at Madras on the 20ih inst. It was stated in the article that if the Mud Springs society failed to meet them at the time and place named, they would con sider that they had defeated the Mud Springs society at the debate held at Mud Springs on the 6th, which stands a tie ac cording to the decision of the four judges, who, it was agreed lshonld decide the question, be fore the commencement of the debate, the question of the chair having a voice in the decision having been discussed and de cided in the negative. In the Winter word was brought to Mud Springs that the Mountain View society was anxious to meet them. A com' mittee was appointed to try to arrange for a meeting. They reported that they found the Mountain View society in a dis organized condition, and the matter was dropped. On the flight set for the dosing of the Mud Springs society for the season, a delegation from the Mountain View society ap peared at the eleventh hour and asked for a joint debate, which was arratiged for at Mud Springs April 0. The inclym onoy of the weather prevented a Crowd being present, but as the Mountain View delegation appeared on the scene the de bate was held. There being no Outsiders present two judges froifl each place were chosen. The decision as above stated was ivndered. The purpose of this article is to st-u the matter before the readers of the Pioneer so that they may see that fear of the outcome h not tile cause, should Mini Springs fail to meet the challenge, which will likely be the case, as the Mud Springs society is now closed lor the season, and nobody has author ity 10 act for the society. And furthermoie, some of their best men have left the country, and. a party being challenged con siders they should have some thing to eay about the condi tions. It would be a pleasure to the Mud Spiings society to meet this challenge if it were possi ble to do so. When they re organize next fall they would like to meet the Mountain View or any other society, not alto gether for the purpose of whipping or being whipped, but for the mumal benefit of both societies, and for the we! fare and advancement of the community at large. Arrive OATTLERS OUF EARLY Rattlesnakes are making an early appearance in this section, live huge ones having already been killed this year on Agency Plains. Three were killed by Cliff and Ray Jackson, two others by one of the Gard boys. last week. One killed by Ray Jackson had nine rattles and a button. Last year a number of rattle snakes were killed upon the Plains, but very few were killed until much later in the year. They were more numerous about harvest time, and as many as eight or ten were killed under one hay stack on several occasions, surgical dlHeaeea, I'OtiiaglouN.
