Fred Fisher waa in town lufet Friday evening, from Fisherviile. J. C. iiush, the Lamontn morchant, was in Madras last Friday. Will Barber was in town last Friday evening from the Culver neighbor llQOll. Chester Itoush was at Cross Keys on Tuesday buying beef for his market ai'tliis place. Born, to the wife of Joo Arney, on Agency Plains, Thursday, February 21. 1007, a daughter. Henry Dietzel has been looking after business matters at the county teat during the past week. Orval i)aN'is and Miss Grace Parrish of" Haycreek attended the AVoodman dauoe at this place Friday evening. A'ustiu Wall, who has been working at Bhauiko dtirinc the Winter, le- turued to his homestead south of this place last Friday. S. lv CVir.rov. wlin loft, lipre n. venr or J - - " 1 " I jr. more ago, returned last Saturday . eveninfei He spent the night in Mad-1 jp ras, and left next morning for Prine ville. A. C. Sanford has had a well drilled on his residence lot on the north side of the towusite. A good flow of water was found at about 26 feet, but the well was drilled 20 feet deeper than that to form a reservoir, as he expects to irrigate his garden fiom this well. Miss Myrtle Gard has returned from Oregon City. On her way home she got as far as Wasco, where she was held up on account of the washout on the Columbia Southern, and as there j was no stage running, she was com pelled to phone out for a private con-, veyauee. One or her urotuers drove to Wasco for her. Gottfried Kampfer and wife were in Madras from their ranch on Trout creek the first of the week. Mr. Kampfer is in the sheep business and reports his stock in good condition after the unusually hard Winter. He had plenty of fee I for his sheep, and his losses were only a tritle more than a natunil loss in the number of sheep he owns. Col. W. H. Reynolds was in town 3ast Friday from the Cliugau ranch three miles beyond Culver, which he is cultivating this -season. He says that they have had even more snow in that locality than fell here, the heaviest snowfall being about two feet deep on the level. The prospects for a big crop during the coming season are unusually good. The big Loveland drill has been moved to the Hunter place on Opal Prairie, and drilling will soon begin on the community well to be sunk at that place. The well will be sunk to a depth of 500 feet if necessary, the con tract covering that amount of drilling, but it is not believed that it will be necessary to go to that depth to secure water. The well is being sunk by the Opal Prairie Prospectinir Couipaby, vhich is' composed of a number of ranchers of that locality. G. Springer returned last Friday evening from Salem, where he spent the pust live weekn in the interest of the movement for the creation of Jefferson county. Although the bill for the creation of Jefferson county was defeated, Mr. Springer does not feel discouraged by tiie outcome, inas much as the light which was waged resulted in keeping all the northern Crook county territory Intact. Mr. Springer staged It out from The Dalles us in tho old days before the building of the Columbia Southern.
