A dispatch to tho Portland Oregoujau from Klamath Falls says: Mason, Davis & Company of Portland, contractors of the irst unit of the Klamath pro ject, have secured the first big contract on the Klamath Falls end of'the Oregon Eastern Rail road, said to be for a stretch of 100 miles. Archie Mason, who has had personal direction of the work lere, is now on his way to .'ortland to confer with his mrtners and officials of the ailroad, it is stated, on what is apparently authentic informa- ion, and arrangements are. be ing made for a vigorous "Whiter campaign. Awarding of the contract is evidence that the intention of the management of the Harri man system is to Complete the entire lino from Natron to Klamath Falls during 1007, and make the through line by .way of Weed a realization as soon as tho line is iinished to this point, which will be about August. Tho contract was given to the Portland firm some time since, but it has not been made public for reasons satisfactory to the railroad offlcals. Plans for abor are well formulated. arge c-uautities of forage have been purchased in order to keep stock now on the 6anal at work through tho Winter in this vicinity, and if the weather is favorable much progress may be made. Considerable stone work is to be done and will be et to contractors it is under stood. The Oregon Eastern is the aarriman line which is to extend ast rind west across the state, from Natron to Ontario, with branch lines extending south into the Klamath country and north into Crook county the main line crossing tho Cas cades near Diamond Peak and extends eastward through the Walker Basin. Tho location 1 1 1 surveys nave an oeeu oum plotied, the northern branch-line survey beginning at Madras nnd extending south.
