Whenever a demand is made
from any portion of Western
Crook county for road improve
ment or a new bridge, the
county court puts up a poo
mouth and pleads poverty, and
yet the information has leaked
out that there is $14,000 in the
road fund, and that an effort is
oeing made to nave tuis sum
turned into the general fund in
order that it may be used in
building Prineville's new com
house.
The time has come when there
suoum oe an end to tuis, ana
the increase in the voting
strength of Western Crook
county places the power in our
hands to put an end to it, pro
vided the people of this section
of the county will stand to
gemer in tne iignt. An oppor
tumty offers now to begin to
apply the remedy, in the flee
tion of a Western Crook

regime in the county as we
have, and those who know him
well vouch for his firmness and
his loyalty. lie should be
elected, and the only way to
elect him is to give him the
solid vote of Western Crook
county, A common interest
should unite all parties in this
fight, in order that we may

,who was nominated by the
"Prineville ring" for the sole

AN OPEN LETTER
To the Voters of Oregon, Greeting:
Quutlemen: The uitdursijued beg
leave to submit to you u few of our
reasons for asking you to ratify, by
your aflirrnatlve votes, the amend
ment granting equal rights to women,
which has been placed beforo tho vo
ters through a petition numerously
signed by the men of Oregon under
the initiative and referendum,
This movement has grown under
your niHUugeuieiit, from tho small be
ginning known as tho Murried Wom
an's Bole Trader Bill, enacted by your
Legislative Assembly in 1872, until it
hue reached such vast proportions as
to attract the attention of the civil lzeJ
world. A constitutional amendment
proposing women's enfranchisement,
submitted to you in 1881, brought us
an ofllrniatlvo volo of 11,223. Tula
amendment -was again submitted to
your suirrageB by legislative Initiative
in 1000, bringing us a vote of 20,205.
Altbouuh the population centers had
more than doubled in sixteen years,
the "No" vote was only Increased by
J.20, while tho "Yes' vote was aug-
uiented by 15.012. This, to us, is.c
palpable augury of the triumph which
we confidently look to you to conauin-
mate for us on the 4th day of Juno by
placing "X" between '302" and
''Yes" on your hullols, .Do litis and
you will houor our flag of truce, the
only power we cun oiler in our defense
agulnt the hHllotted forces of the op
position. Do thl., and you will houor
Oregon, your mothers and yourselves,
Aud your petitioners will. ever pray,
