The Farmers' Institute which was to
be held at Hcnd on the 28th of April has
been postponed until the latter part of
this month, at which tunc it is planned to
have a large gathering of farmers of wes
tern Crook. Dr. Withycombe, the re
publican nominee for governor, his been
invited to aitend the meeting. The date
will probably be nnuounced in time toi
publication in our next issue.

J. D. Wilcox, of Portland, and B.
Clendening and R. li M. Strickland, of
Spokane, were m Madras last Monday
evening, on their way to the railroad from
a visit nt Bend and in that vicinity. Mr.
Wilcox is a prominent capitalist from the
Oregon metropolis, while Ins companions
on the trip were associated with Spokane
capital, Mr1. Clendening repicscnting the
Charles Sweeney millions. The object of
their visit into central Oregon was
not made public, further than that they
had been visiting the much talkcd-of cen
tral Oregon country.
John 0. Rose arrived here on Monday,
for the purpose of defendnig the contest
