Lovc.ll, of Hhaniko, whs a visitor in Madras several days dunh(( the past week, having driven Over from Shauiko with Dr. tic is veiy much sur prised at (he improvement in Madras tincc Ins last visi, and he says that in his opinion Madras will be the best town in central Oregon. Knox Huston, one of (he pioneer citi zen of the county, died at his home at I'rineville last week, of lirtlil's disease. Mr. Huston has -been n surveyor and laud locator in this county for a number of years, and probably no man 'iri the county was mote familiar with all sections than he, lie was a candidate fot county surveyor at (he lime of his death. Miss Marie Galloway met with a vrry painful accident last Saturday evening while on her way from li&ycrcck to Shaniko an the i'rineville stage. When on Mci'herson hill the stage struck a large rock and was upset, the passengers being thrown out and several of tliijin re ceiving more or( less serious injuries. Miss pallnway received a number of painful injuries, although the first report that her arin was broken is since denied. She continued her journey to Wasco, but she has not yet bten able to take up her duties with the O. T. Company. SELL RIGHT-OF-WAY U. S. Cowles and wife deeded right-of-way across their property on the Des chutes, to the Oregon Trunk Line, on Tuesday. One stipulation in this deed for right-of-way was that actual construe lion work should begin on the road for which the right-of way was given, within sixty days from date. If work does not begin within that time, the right of way reverts to Mr. Cowles.
