The Mud Springs school closed hut
Friday evening and quite a number of the
patrons surprised the schoolma'am, Mrs.
Ralph Hrown, with an appetizing dinner.
This leim of chool has been a very sue
cessful one, and Mrs. Hrown's work is
meeting with he approval of the patrons
of that district.

Snow fell on Grinly and other buttcs
southeast of here, several flays during the
week, and if these, occasional snows find
1 aitis continue, there will soon be plenty
f water in Willow creek, which finds its
tonrcc in these hills. This will mooable
lie the last month of "drouth" in Madras
and it is said by some that water is already
beginning to come into the wells i.i larger;
quantities.
Henry Dcitzel, of the Madras Milling
& Mercantile Company says that the
statement made in the Pnneville paps's of
two weeks ago to the effect that a suit in
equity for S6000 had been filed at The
Dalles against the Madras Milling Com
pany is erroneous. I he suit filed at I he
Dalles is by Mr. Dciucl for a settlement
with the old firm of S. P. Conroy & Sons
of The Dalles, of which firm he was a
nember, and the Madras Milling &'Mcr
cantile Company is in no way involved in
that suit.
Joe Stewart was in town from Helper
several days during the week. He has a
very sore thumb as the result of having
cut it upon a piece of biokcn glass one
lay last vttek, and was in town for the
ourpose of having it Healed. The injury
was slight at first, but on Saturday moili
ng blood poisoning appeared to be se'-
