Wolverton Is Appointed.
Judge Charles . Wolverton of the Ore
gon Supreme Court, has been appoint
ed by the President to fill the vacant fed
eral judgeship in Oregon, to succeed the
late Judge Charles H. Bellinger. Judge
Wovertnn's appointment came.as a sur
prise, as the choice was supposed to lie
between Judges Hcan a.id M.cBride, both
of whom were active candidates for the ap
pointment, and the latter having the sup.
portt of Senator Fulton. Howerver, Judge
Wolvcrton,s appointment will be decided
ly popular throughout the state, owing to
eminent fitness for the place. During all
the years of factional strife in Orecon.
judge Wolveiton has refrained from ac
tiva partisanship, and he is especially fitted
(or tbe federal iudeshio at this ti me liu
reason of this. An able jurist, of lone ex-1
pentnee upon the state supreme bench,
in the prime of his life, judee Wolverton's
appointment has met with wide approval
throughout the state.
