Mis. Fred H. .add accidentally shot
the third finger of her (eft band last Sun
day, whie trying to kill a coyote with a
pistol. She had shot at tbe varmint once,!
and the pistol refusing to fjre a second
time, was investigating the cause, when
the pistol was accidentally discharged.
The wound inflicted has proved quite
painfnt, but not serious, and there seems
no danger of losing the finger. Mrs. Ladd
feels that she had a most fortunate escape
from what might have been a serious
accident.

Arthur P. Donohue, formerly connected
with the Western Historical Publishing
Company, and Kied N. Wallace, of Laid
law, arc the latest to enter the field of
Crook county journalism. They will
soon begin the publication of a paper at
Laidlaw to be knotvn as the Laid law
Chronicle. Doth have had experience in
newspaper work, and ns they have already
been assured of a liberal patronage for
their paper, it should prove a successlul
venture. Laidlaw is located on the Des
chutes nt a point formerly known us
Picket Island, and on the old line of sur
vey of the Corvalhs & Eastern railroad.
It is an ideal location for a town.
