Mayes was born Septenl ber 19, 1803, in Claiborne county, Tennest.eo. She waa married to Dr. Holt In 1S83. Bhe resided In the State of Tennessee until the year 1000, when f.1nt nccnmp-inled her patents to the Wlllamtto Valley, Oroirou, una in Jutip, 1002, she came to Crook county and (lied on a homestead ono und ore- half miles northeast of M dra., where she resided until her health failed and alio went to II vo with her parr tits, Mri and Mrs. James Mayes, who live near Madras. At the age of 22 years Mrs. Holt was converted mid was baptized by and united with the Missionary Raptist Church at Woodson's) Chapel, in Ton litiee, of which church she remained i consistent member until her death, whinh occurred at the homo of her pitfnta September 21, 1001.
